Twice as fast, half the price.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; The fastest Mac browser, some say the best ever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Google&#8217;s founders introduced their company like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; &#8220;With one click, Google gives you access to all the world&#8217;s information.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One person who invests money told the writer:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;If you can&#8217;t explain what you do in 10 words or less, I&#8217;m not interested.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Starbucks:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Starbucks is like a third place between work and home.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the presentation &#8220;Introduction of Keynote by Steve Jobs,&#8221; Steve Jobs did the same thing with catchy headlines that capture the main point of the presentation. It&#8217;s not about you; it&#8217;s about what your audience wants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Scene 5:&nbsp; Draw a Road Map<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Jobs always followed the rule of three. This makes it easy for your audience to follow. For example, you could talk about three main features, or do a three-part demonstration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, make a list of everything you want to say about your product, service, or company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, group these ideas until you have only three main points. These three things will be the main focus of your presentation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For each point, use one of the techniques you learned in Scene 1: tell a personal story, share facts, give an example, compare things, use a metaphor, or share what someone else said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Scene 6: Introduce the Antagonist<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In every story, there&#8217;s a bad guy. Steve Jobs&#8217; presentations are no different.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here&#8217;s an example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1984, Apple made a commercial for the Macintosh computer. Steve Jobs raises questions about problems and then gives the solutions. Problem + Solution = classic Steve Jobs style.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s important to show who the enemy is. It gets people&#8217;s attention, makes them talk, and even buy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need a sentence to introduce the enemy: why do we need to solve this?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>For example:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Safari Web Browser Introduction. Question: Why a new browser when there are others? Solution: Ours is faster and works better with Google.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need to make space in your audience&#8217;s minds for your solution. This prepares them for your message.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Introduce the problem at the start of your presentation. Always ask the question before giving the solution. You can use pictures to make the problem clear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Build your talk by answering these four questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; What do you do?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; What problem do you solve?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; How are you different?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Why should I care?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spend time talking about the problem in detail. Make it real for your audience. Explain how bad it feels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, people don&#8217;t care about your solution. And I don\u2019t mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Steve Jobs<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you&#8217;ve introduced the problem or challenge, which is like the bad guy in a story, explain how your product or service can solve that problem in a way that&#8217;s easy to understand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an old video called &#8220;Apple Keynote (1983),&#8221; Steve Jobs talks about the problem (Big Blue), like a villain in a James Bond movie, and then introduces the solution, which is like the hero who saves the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Steve Jobs&#8217; presentations, the hero&#8217;s job isn&#8217;t always to defeat the bad guy, but to make our lives better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here&#8217;s another example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In &#8220;The First Ever iPod Introduction (2001),&#8221; Steve Jobs said, &#8220;No one has figured out how to do digital music yet. But we will.&#8221; He&#8217;s describing the challenge in the music industry and how Apple&#8217;s iPod is going to fix it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talk about the current situation, and then share your vision of how things could be better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When presenting your solution, avoid jargon. The solution must be simple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUnless you have a lot of passion about what you offer, you\u2019re not going to survive. You\u2019re going to give it up. So you\u2019ve got to have an idea, or a problem or a wrong that you want to right that you\u2019re passionate about; otherwise, you\u2019re not going to have the perseverance to stick it through. I think half the battle is there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Steve Jobs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, Steve Jobs believed that unless you&#8217;re really passionate about solving a problem, you won&#8217;t have the determination to keep going.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Break time: the 10-minute rule<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research in cognitive science has shown that people start losing interest after about 10 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve Jobs didn&#8217;t let his audience get bored.
